The Grizz Should go to Jail for Theft

At the eleventh hour of the 2020 NBA Draft, the Memphis Grizzlies swooped in and made an amazing trade. The Grizzlies traded for the 30th pick in the draft and selected Desmond Bane of TCU. As a Grizzlies fan, I could not be happier with this pick. I would even go as far as to say the Grizzlies made the steal of the draft.

If there was just one word I could use to describe Bane, that word is HOOPER. This dude can straight up ball. His growth during his years at TCU has been astronomical. Bane is a hard worker who fits perfectly into the culture at Memphis.

Bane stands tall at 6’6 and is just a block of muscle at 215 lbs. He may not be the quickest, but this dude is strong. His strength combined with his ball-handling and ability to attack the rim make for an excellent combination. He is essentially the perfect off guard to play opposite of Ja Morant and Tyus Jones.

Future Starter?

The interesting caveat of this pick is this- what do the Grizzlies intend on doing with De’Anthony Melton, and even Dillon Brooks? Bane can do what Melton can, but maybe a little better, and Brooks has lost some love among Grizz fans in recent months. He is good enough to start either next year or even by the All-Star break this coming year. It will be interesting to see how that situation develops moving forward.

Desmond Bane is the steal of the draft, and I’m happy that he is a Memphis Grizzly. He is a darling of Twitter that isn’t overhyped, meaning there is legitimate reasoning to think that Bane can actually ball. I have faith in this front office and head coach Taylor Jenkins. It will be exciting to see what Bane can do in a Grizz uniform. Grit n Grind baby!
